Reaction forces in bulk tank leg

Project Description

Goal: Determine the reaction forces in the legs of bulk tanks on board of a sea going vessel.

Result: Analyses were done by means of Femap to determine the reaction forces for many different load cases. Ship accelerations due to roll and pitch were applied as well as wind loading on the tanks. All tank legs were provided with pins in the connection to the ship. In our FE model these connections were modeled using contact elements. Reaction forces were determined for both empty and full tanks.
